COLBY, Kan. — The array of singles, doubles and triples for McCook National Bank Wednesday night were even better than visiting Colby’s tasty Meat Market restaurant right off Interstate 70.

The Seniors feasted on 33 hits while conquering this doubleheader like a cool chocolate milkshake.

They also swiped 19 bases besides their 19-hit barrage that opened a 9-3, 14-7 doubleheader sweep of their Kansas hosts.

Coach Scott Smalley remarked following Tuesday’s split with Hays, Kan., that his team needed to get started before the fifth inning.

They waited until the fourth frame of game one at Colby, but then McCook’s onslaught was unstoppable.

Consider that MNB swiped 19 bases Wednesday night to go with a 19-hit barrage in that opening victory.

Cam Berry was lapping the diamond all game as his three hits, three runs and four RBIs fueled the early attack.

Clutch hits were arriving faster than Kansas City Royals fans can shout “we stink again!”

No MNB bat was more consistent than new starter Kaleb Gillen.

Gillen crushed three hits in game one, then another three during the nightcap to hit .600 on this evening.

Seth Dugger delivered his own four-hit opening game which topped Colby’s entire team thanks to strong Jordan Chauncey pitching.

Chauncey permitted only three hits while hurling a complete game for his first win of 2019.

McCook built a 9-0 lead in game one. Game two was only 6-0, but it reached 14-2 until one final Colby five-run inning.

Logan Barenberg’s double highlighted the second contest where MNB totaled another 14 hits.

The Seniors finished 4-1 during their Kansas week vs. Norton, Colby and Hays.

Now they’ll return to Nebraska competition in this weekend’s North Platte Tournament.
