PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. — Trae Koetter’s tie-breaking, seventh-inning single helped the McCook National Bank Seniors finish an 8-7 over traditionally tough Sutton Sunday afternoon.

Koetter’s three hits keyed the first MNB victory since last year’s post-season run to state.

Dawson Bredvick and Konor Rakes both doubled to go with a single.

Rakes really made an impact on the pitching mound where he struck out 11 during 5 2/3 innings.

Sutton only managed two hits, but five walks did spark a late comeback in this Plattsmouth Tournament finale for both teams.

McCook’s top Legion team shook off an early 3-0 deficit with a three-run fourth inning.

Bredvick, Rakes and seasoned veteran Seth Dugger ripped three consecutive doubles which forged a 3-3 deadlock.

The tie didn’t last long because following a “double steal” from Dugger and Logan Barenberg, Koetter clobbered an RBI-double to make it 4-3 for MNB.

McCook added two huge runs after Coady Armstrong felt the never pleasant kiss of an inside pitch.

Armstrong soon stung Sutton by stealing second, taking third on Cameryn Berry’s infield grounder and scoring thanks to another wild pitch.

However, feisty Sutton still caught the MNB boys at 6-6 through six frames.

Enough tie-game drama.

Rakes promptly drew a walk leading off the MNB seventh. He reached third base though it required two ground-ball outs from Dugger and Barenberg.

Yet with two outs, Koetter singled and Rakes raced home to make it 7-6.

McCook added its eighth crucial run without another hit — though Armstrong was hit by another pitch.

Thank you, sir, may I have another was a classic Animal House movie line.

Sure enough, Berry got smacked to load the bases. Drew Harvie then happily took four off-target pitches for an RBI-walk, scoring Koetter.

Dugger took over pitching duties and did surrender one run. He still earned his first save of the season when Sutton’s last batter popped out to shortstop James Mockry.

Officially, Brandon DeRauf earned the win as he recorded a final out in Sutton’s sixth inning. He permitted two hits.

Rakes and Rakes both scored a pair runs for MNB.

Harvie, Koetter and Dugger talled two RBIs apiece.

The Seniors finished strong following three tough defeats earlier in this Plattsmouth tourney.
