KEARNEY, Neb. — McCook High’s JV tennis girls won four of five before rain wiped out the remaining Kearney Invite matches on Monday.

Senior Macy Hill toppled No. 1 players from Norfolk, 6-2, and Holdrege 6-0 to lead the brief but dominating Bison performance.

Sophomores Elsa Wilcox and Emily Kjendal were also 2-0 against No. 1 doubles. They scored 6-2 victories over both Kearney Catholic and Lexington.

No. 2 doubles Kristin Collicott and MaKenna Cooper dropped a tough 7-5 decision to the Norfolk Panthers.

However, they also swept district rival Lexington 6-0.

The Kearney Invite completed two rounds and was just entering its third when matches were called.

Better weather is being expected for Bison varsity home finales Thursday afternoon.

McCook’s two-time GNAC champions will dual Hastings Adams Central at 2 p.m. followed by a scheduled 4 p.m. showdown with rival Holdrege.

Coach Matt Wiemers said the Bison will honor all their seniors. They’ve been part of McCook teams who have become a Class B top three progam during these past two seasons, including a historic state championship in 2017. State is next week at Lincoln.
