Bison girls taking charge of B-6?

Tuesday, April 30, 2019

COZAD, Neb. — Lo and behold, look who’s back at No. 1 in the new B-6 district shot put and discus standings.

No other than defending B-6 champ Mackenzie Smith.

Smith delivered what most any coach preaches as all calendars move close to May:

Peak and perform your best at the perfect time.

Smith achieved those goals at Saturday’s Southwest Conference Invite where she took both power-throwing championships.

Her throw of 38’5” was farther than any previous shot put attempt since Smith first picked up that heavy steel ball.

She also won the discus by almost five feet, but the Bison senior would love to go even farther during these next three weeks.

All that remains for the Bison teams are their three biggest competiitions: GNAC in North Platte on Thursday, B-6 district at Ogallala next week then — of course — hopefully many converging upon Omaha Burke Stadium May 17-18 for Class B state.

The Bison delivered several great efforts while taking third as a team at SWC.
