TORRINGTON, Wyo. – The McCook Community College golf team finished the final regular meet of the year in second place, shooting a 307 Friday for a two-day total of 611. Eastern Wyoming won the tournament by 48 shots.

The Lancers had already clinched the season-long point standings but finished besting MCC 114-86. Eastern Wyoming earns the automatic bid to the NJCCA National Tournament next month in Florida. MCC will also participate, as an at-large invitee.

“It was a very bittersweet day as we definitely had some putting problems this week and didn’t end the season the way we wanted,” MCC golf coach Tyler Loop said.

On the day, Eastern Wyoming’s Harry Walch, posted the low score of the tournament with a 137. Sophomore Cameron Lampe (Windsor, Colo.) finished in a tie for ninth place with a 151.

Sophomore Graham Gaspard (Breckenridge, Colo.) shot the low score of the day (a 74) to finish the tournament at 153 – good for a 12th place tie.

Sophomore Ronnie Quick (London, England) finished with a 154, freshman KC Carlson a 156, freshman Chesney Tatman (North Platte) both shot two-day scores of 156.

Competing as individuals, sophomore Brady Wonderly (Benkelman) shot a 158 and freshmen Trevor Oberg (McCook) shot a 165.

For the individual player standings, it was a bittersweet day as well with Lampe missing out on back-to-back individual Region IX championships.

He finished one point back of Eastern Wyoming’s George Elliott 77-76. Gonzalo Arcelay and Harry Walch of Eastern Wyoming finished third and fourth respectively with 73 and 72 points.

MCC’s Ronnie Quick was fifth with 46 points in the individual race.
