McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Community College softball team split a pair of games with Otero Junior College Tuesday at the Jaycees Sports Complex.

OJC won the first game 4-3 and MCC came back to win the second game 7-6 in eight innings.

“Today was fun, we had two hard-fought games,” said MCC Coach Josh Barnes.

The Rattlers broke up a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the sixth inning to take the opening game but MCC got a game-winning walk-off single from Sydney McArthur, (Washington, Utah) in the bottom of the eighth inning to make a winner of freshman Sarah Willier (Ponoka, Alberta).

Freshman Jade Hollands (Effingham, Kan.) and sophomore Isabel Serna (Roy, Utah) both had three doubles on the afternoon. Hollands had five RBIs.

“The girls are really playing hard for each other and it showed today,” Barnes said.

MCC improves to 23-25 and 12-14 in Region IX. Otero JC goes to 18-9 in the Region two games back of Western Nebraska. MCC is in fourth place.

MCC will take on Central Community College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at the Jaycees Sports Complex. Central is 10-20 overall after sweeping a pair of games at North Platte Tuesday, 18-3, 18-14.
