Medicaid crisis topic for Wednesday event

Monday, April 22, 2019

Dear Editor,

This Medicaid situation for nursing homes grows with every Nebraska facility. McCook and all area communities are welcome to the nursing home crisis meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 in McCook's Fox Theater.

It is the same story for any community with a care facility. The informational program is expected to last not more than one and a half hours.

Come learn what is in process to convince the Nebraska Legislators that changes are needed now in their current Medicaid under-payment plan of up to $50 a day per patient less than cost of operation.

Our state senators are being broadsided in every direction for more funds. The opportunity is now to ask them to act as if their parents were residents of Nebraska nursing homes. We ask them to vision what if their home closed because of insufficient funding. We are asking for vision in reality and honor for the services provided by Nebraska care facilities.

Here is another thought: all persons concerned must face the reality of what needs to be done locally if the crisis remains.

There is hope. I see this every day that I am in the halls of our nursing home when the downstairs child care program brings a gaggle of beautiful children to walk the upstairs halls to visit and laugh with smiling, tearful and appreciative residents and staff.

7 p.m Wednesday, April 24 at the Fox Theater

Thank You

Don Harpst
