Indians win all four over Rattlers
LA JUNTA, Colo. – The McCook Community College baseball team completed a four-game series sweep over Otero Junior College Saturday winning a pair of extra-innings games. The Indians won the first game 2-1 in 10 innings, and the second game 4-1 in nine innings.
“What a weekend for us, we had to battle our tails off today,” MCC coach Jon Olsen said.
Freshman Justin Lucas (Las Vegas) hit a 10th-nning home run in Game 1 to back the 13-strikeout pitching of freshman Braden Babcock (Oshawa, Ontario). In the second game sophomore transfer Ricardo Jimenez, (Hialeah, Fla.) broke up a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the ninth inning and MCC added on two more runs to back the 11-strikeout performance of freshman Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli, (Austin, Texas).
“We got a pair of outstanding performances on the mound,” Olsen said. “The level of pressure playing extra-inning games on the road when you don’t have the last at bat is pretty intense. Braden, Tyler and our defenders were up to it today.”
Otero JC drops to 7-20 in Region IX play and 11-36 overall.
The Indians improve to 15-22 and 11-15 in the Region IX Empire League.
“We knew we needed a big weekend this weekend, we got it and now have a chance to make things interesting the next two weeks, hopefully we can continue to play well.”
