Husker talent hitting McCook arena this week

McCOOK, Neb. — Just a reminder of some talent McCook -area fans will be seeing during the University of Nebraska’s spring volleyball match vs. Colorado State Saturday afternoon:

6’4” middle blocker Lauren Stivrins, who crushed 19 kills against No. 1 Stanford during the NCAA national championship match last fall. Stivrins’ hitting percentage was the second highest ever for an NCAA title match among anyone who has unleashed 20 or more attempts.

6’2” outside hitter Lexi Sun. She rose to the NCAA finals challenge with 19 kills and 12 digs vs. Stanford. She often played her best vs. the strongest opponents. Her 16 kills vs. No. 7-ranked Penn State featured six in the decisive fifth set.

5’10” setter Nicklin Hames,whose college debut ONLY brought 35 assists and 19 digs against No. 7-ranked Florida to start the season. Hames became an all-regional player while helping Nebraska reach its fourth straight Final Four.

Hames capped her freshman campaign with 62 assists in the national title match.

Outside hitters 6’3” Jazz Sweet and 6’1” Capri Davis. Among many great moments were the 30 kills in a five-set comeback win over No. 14 Creighton where Davis crushed he career-best 18.

6’5” blocking machine Callie Schwarzenbach, who showed she can hit with nine kills and eight blocks in a memorable win over No. 7 Illinois that ended the Illini’s 14-match winning streak.

5’6” libero Megan Miller who made a season-best 23 digs in a win at No. 15 Michigan.

The NU spring match begins at 1 p.m on Saturday in McCook’s Peter and Delores Graff Events Center. Watch for more details this week.
