Indians win 7-0, hope for home opener today
ALVA, Okla. – The McCook Community College baseball team split a pair of games against Northwestern Oklahoma State JV Monday, dropping the first game 4-3 and winning the second game 7-0.
“We came out flat in game one, we played like we still had a hangover from the tough Trinidad loss Saturday,” McCook Community College baseball coach Jon Olsen said.
Monday’s Game 1 loss came despite the fact MCC out-hit the Rangers 8-2.
“We only gave up two hits in the game but they both came in the same inning where we walked the first three hitters and made an error -- that gets you beat when you don’t hit,” Olsen said.
In the second game, it took a couple innings for the offense to get heated up but MCC scored in four straight innings to make a winner of Indian starter Anthony Kingsbury (Gatineau, Quebec).
The Indians are 8-14 on the season and 5-9 in Region IX (Empire League) play.
After the six previous attempts at a home opener were foiled by weather, the forecast looks good for the home-opener todayagainst Empire League foe Western Nebraska.
The doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m. The Cougars are 8-16 on the season and 5-5 in Empire League play.
“I am super excited to get back home and play,” Olsen said. “It’s been a tough start with our first 22 games on the road so Thursday will be a welcome site.”
