Sweep caps tough MCC softball trip

PUEBLO, Colo. – The McCook Community College softball team dropped a pair of games to Otero Junior College Friday to finish the first weekend in Region IX play at 1-4.

MCC lost on Friday 14-0 and 16-7 after splitting a pair of games Thursday at Runyon Sports Complex in Pueblo, Colo.

The games were moved from Otero’s home field in La Junta because of field conditions.

The Rattlers opened up a 1-0 game in the second inning of the first game Friday scoring six runs and added seven more in the third on the way to the 14-0, two-hit shutout.

In the second game, Otero came back from a 7-6 deficit in the bottom of the fifth inning with a nine-run outburst to end the game on the eight-run rule.

The Lady Indians were victimized by eight errors in the game which led to nine unearned runs.

Sophomore Chanel Siebenthal (Lakewood, Colo.) and freshman Emma McLean (Willetton, Western Australia) provided the only hits in the first game and both had two hits in the second game.

Otero improves to 13-3 (3-1 in Region IX) on the season while MCC is 4-7 (1-3 in Region IX).

Next on the MCC schedule is a doubleheader at Central Community College-Columbus Wednesday starting at 1 p.m.

PUEBLO, Colo. – The McCook Community College Lady Indian softball team exploded for six runs in the third inning of Game 2 Thursday to gain a split in the opening series of Region IX play with Otero Junior College.

MCC won the second game 13-5 after dropping the first game 7-4. The games were moved from La Junta, Colo. to Runyon Sports Complex (Salas Field) in Pueblo, because of field conditions.

A pair of freshman anchored the offense in both games with Hannah Jensen, (Aurora, Colo.) pounding out five hits in seven at bats on the day with a double, triple and five RBI. Emma McLean (Willetton, Western Australia) was four-for-six on the day three extra-base-hits and a pair of RBI in each game.

Sophomore Jerusha Miner, (Gunnison Valley, Utah) had four hits on the day and scored four runs.

Otero is 11-3 on the season while MCC is 4-5.

The two teams complete the four game series Friday with games at noon and Saturday at 2 p.m. central time.
