Last Wildcat putback ends Arapahoe's season
OXFORD, Neb. — Arapahoe erased a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit only to see Axtell’s final putback end the season with a 42-41 subdistrict finals win Thursday evening.
Axtell (13-11) advances into the D1-3 final to play Humphrey Lindsay Holy Family Monday night at St. Paul.
A win would move the 14th-seeded Wildcats into D-1 state tournament play.
Arapahoe (11-16 final record) fell just short of its quest to win the subdistrict as a No. 4 seed among five teams.
The Warriors knocked off No. 1 Wilcox-Hildreth, 45-40, Tuesday night after trouncing No. 5 Franklin, 70-29, on Monday.
They conquered a cold first half for both teams as Arapahoe led 17-13 into halftime.
The Wildcats discovered some tough during their huge 19-5 third quarter which made it 32-22.
However, Arapahoe rallied behind Anderson’s eight points including two triples.
Senior Carson Schroeder contributed five points while Nolan Meyers and senior Yordi Gutierrez each added three for the final 41-40 Warriors lead.
Axtell had just enough time to steal the subdistrict title.
No other details were obtained.
