CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Wow, there was no breaking these Broncos for Southwest’s Roughriders Tuesday night.

In fact, Wauneta-Palisade’s boys are reaching the level where just slowing them down under 80 points could become a victory.

The Broncos (18-5 record) followed two recent 50-point fist halves with 25 more before even one quarter was complete in their D1-10 subdistrict semifinal Tuesday night.

W-P turned that 25-10 lead into 47-16 by halftime and really never lost steam throughout the 80-28 playoff triumph.

Coach Dave Kuhlen’s team now charges into a fourth showdown with Dundy County-Stratton to decide the D1-10 title Thursday night at Cambridge High School. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.

The No. 1-seed Tigers (16-6) took game one in a Cattle Trail Tournament final more than two months ago.

However, Wauneta-Palisade has taken the next two games including a 69-51 win at Benkelman in Friday’s regular-season finale.

Southwest finished its season at 10-11 overall with seniors Dylan Hofman, Brett Soderlund, Grant Slater, Blake Williams and Jay Porter all hitting shots in their final high school games.

BRONCOS (80) — Dalton Harchelroad 16 points, Dennis Cavanaugh 15, Ty Duvel 10, Duncan Rector 9, Cord Lee 8, Caid Doetker 7, Tucker Boos 5, Joel Maris 4, Ben Anderjaska 3, Garrett Hanna 3.

ROUGHRIDERS (28) — Bryan Leslie 10 points, Dylan Hofman 5, Brett Soderlund 4, Grant Slater 3, Blake Williams 2, Jay Porter 2, John Stritt 1.
