ATWOOD, Kan. — The Rawlins County (Kan.) boys started their quest for a repeat state tournament trip with Tuesday’s 60-42 regional win over Cheylin (Kan.).

Steady senior Jorge Chacon scored at least four points in every quarter on his way to a team-high 20.

Seniors Brennan Dixson and Marvin Sanchez netted nine points each. Sanchez hit all three of his triples during a 23-point Rawlins second period.

The Buffaloes (13-8 record) never lost control with Arie Olson (six points) Travis Chvatal (five points), Ian Hemel (four) and Sam Hurst (four) all hitting second-half baskets.

Michael Martinez added another three points to seal the regional semifinal win on Rawlins’ home floor.

The Buffaloes advance into regional final action later this week. Watch for more results and details in the Gazette.
