BENKELMAN, Neb. — Wauneta-Palisade’s nine three-pointers showed the Broncos are warming up for playoffs with a 69-51 win over Dundy County-Stratton Friday evening.

Seniors Dennis Cavanaugh (five triples) and Duncan Rector (four) finished their regular-season Bronco careers in fine style.

They teamed to score 41 points with Cavanaugh hitting a season-high 24. He also pulled down 13 game-high rebounds.

Together, they helped the Broncos (17-5 record) also win their series 2-1 from talented DC-S (15-6).

The Tigers won game on in a Cattle Trail tourney finale during December, but W-P took an RPAC tourney thriller last month.

Seniors Dalton Harchelroad and Joel Maris added eight points each as there was really no drama in game three.

Wauneta-Palisade took a 20-14 lead through one quarter which reached 38-25 by halftime.

Junior Michael Frederick’s 17 points paced DC-S while junior Cade Lutz tossed in 10.

Sophomore Kaleb Krutsinger captured a team-high 10 rebounds to go with three blocked shots from senior Jacob Krutsinger-Haines.

However, the Tigers lost 20 turnovers against W-P’s pressure defense and only shot 33 percent.

Both teams start subdistrict tournament play on Tuesday.
