'Lots of concrete'

Red Willow County commissioners want to start plans for the replacement of a two-lane bridge in the southeast corner of the county, one built in 1934 over the Beaver Creek east of Lebanon. Tyson Bardsley, the county's bridge inspector, described the bridge at a commissioners' meeting Monday morning as a good-sized bridge … lots of concrete on timber piles. Commission chairman Earl McNutt said that while the timber piles are becoming compromised, the bridge isn't going to fail any time soon. Bardsley's overall report on the county's bridge inventory indicates no serious problems but points out the typical washing, trash and trees at each location. During Monday's meeting, county treasurer Sue Wesch told commissioners that she will publish the list of delinquent taxes (except those in bankruptcy) in the McCook Gazette on Feb. 1, 8 and 15. Andy Long, director of the McCook Economic Development Corp. (MEDC), reported that they have a waiting list of 51 for Clary Village and 81 for Quillan Court, the age- and income-restricted housing neighborhoods in northwest McCook. The waiting lists indicate the demand for adequate housing, Long said, an MEDC focus along with workforce and business recruitment.
