McCOOK, Neb. — McCook’s freshman boys built leads as large as 32 points while blasting past Hershey, 55-34, Monday evening in McCook High’s gymnasium.

“It was a good win,” coach Joel Arterburn confirmed. “Scoring was shared across the team.”

Indeeed. Josh Hegwood and Cameron Werkmeister scored 12 points apiece to lead a balanced Bison attack.

Hunter Hansen followed with eight points while Logan Havlicek and Matthew Nichols both sent six points through the MHS nets.

Brendan Gillen dropped a nickel (five points), Jarrett Walter matched what many hope will be Tom Brady’s number of Super Bowl defeats (four) after Sunday and Victor Schwarz tallied how many refs kept those Saints out of Sunday’s big game (two).

“Called off the dogs in the fourth quarter,” Arterburn concluded and confirmed the Bison played like fine animals.

Girls' contest cancelled

McCOOK, Neb.— McCook High’s freshman girls basketball rescheduled for Thursday at Southern Valley has been called, Bison officials announced this morning.

No information was obtained about Monday’s home game against Hershey before the Gazette press deadline today.
