Rotary Soup-R=Bowl Friday benefits Pantry

McCOOK, Neb. — What’s better to warm the soul after several days of frosty weather than a variety of soups? The McCook Rotary Club, in cooperation with 15 participating organizations, plans its fourth annual Soup-R-Bowl lunch on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizations have volunteered to prepare a pot of soup to be served to the public in exchange for a free will donation of cash or food products for the McCook Food Pantry.

According to Rotary organizer Steven Rasmusen, the event is designed to not only raise funds for the Pantry, but to also encourage residents to get out and enjoy all that downtown McCook has to offer. In addition, a fairly fierce competition has developed between organizations for the best soup. This year, all of the soups will be located downtown at the Keystone Business Center.

Serving soup this year are: MPCC Business & Community Education (loaded baked potato); Acme Printing (southwest soup); Horizon Bank (cheesy ham and potato); McCook Rotary (beer cheese); McCook Economic Development Corp. (potato); Hinze Chiropractic (ginger carrot); McCook Public Schools (tortellini soup); MNB Insurance (chicken enchilada soup); McCook Community Foundation Fund (cheeseburger soup); Prairie Plains CASA (white chicken chili); McCook Chamber of Commerce (spinach tortellini); McCook Gazette (beef stew); Home Instead Senior Care (white chicken chili); and MNB Bank (heart stopping potato) and The Sports Shoppe (minestrone).

Everyone is invited to come down to the Keystone on Friday and enjoy tasting a variety of soups and vote on their favorites in the “somewhat friendly” competition.
