Bronco boys bounce to 10th victory

WAUNETA, Neb. — The Wauneta-Palisade boys dashed to their 10th victory this season, 59-40, over visiting Garden County Saturday night.

Duncan Rector’s 23 points powered the offensive attack while teammate Ty Duvel pulled down 13 rebounds and senior Dennis Cavanaugh controlled another nine.

The Broncos blasted in front, 13-4, through one quarter then saw Garden County score a surprising 21 second-pierod points.

Yet the visitors only tallied 15 following halftime, which wasn’t nearly enough to match Wauneta-Palisade’s 25.

Senior Joe Maris and junior Ben Anderjaska dded eight points apiece.

Junior Cord Lee contributed five points with Duvel scoring four.

The Broncos also owned a commanding 47-34 rebounding advantage while swiping 16 steals compared to Garden County’s nine.

Anderjaska made six steals and delivered four assists which were both Bronco bests.

Wauneta-Palisade improved to 10-2 and will continue its quest for a second state tournament appearance in three seasons. Garden County’s now 5-5 overall.

Tigers triumph

BENKELMAN, Neb. — Dundy County-Stratton’s also 10-2 following a 73-40 victory over Medicine Valley Friday evening.

Junior Michael Frederick was focused on nothing but success as he hit 10 of 11 shots and totaled 21 points.

The Tigers’ other points were equally divided among all four classes.

Senior Jacob Krutsinger-Haines, junior Cade Lutz, sophomore Keegan Krutsinger and freshman Quade Myers scored eight poins each.

Krutsinger and Frederick finished with a team-high six rebounds apiece.

Krutsinger-Haines swatted two of the Tigers’ six blocked shots.

No individual results were available for Medicine Valley.

Wolves fall short

The Maywood-Hayes Center boys played tough throughout a 41-37 loss at Arthur County Friday night.

Coach Kolby Hamilton’s Wolves (1-12) visit Bertrand on Tuesday.
