Awesome Arapahoe 'D' leads girls victory

CURTIS, Neb. — Arapahoe only allowed two baskets throughout the Warrior girls’ 30-9 win over Medicine Valley Friday evening.

The game was tied 4-4 through one quarter after Med Valley’s Acelyn Klein made a shot.

However, the Warriors (5-8 record) turned up their pressure which included a third-quarter shutout.

Arapahoe built a 20-6 entering that final period before Sabra Schmidt made Med Valley’s other field goal.

It wasn’t quite enough since five players scored to lead the visitors.

Joslyn North netted a game-high nine followed by Mariah Watson (eight points), Adrienne North (six), Terri Hilker (five) and Hope Koller (two).

The Warriors improved each quarter with four, seven, nine and 10 points.

Schmidt and Klein each scored four for the 1-9 Med Valley Raiders.

Jessa Bailey added a free throw.

The Warriors weren’t able to continue their success in a 58-22 home loss to Loomis.

Sophomore Alexis Billeter netted 21 points on sharp nine-for-13 shooting to lead those 7-3 Wolves.

Watson countered with 13 points for Arapahoe. The hosts stayed close until a 20-2 Loomis third quarter.

Adrinne North added four points, Hilker three and Koller two.

Eagles fall in OT

BERTRAND, Neb. — The Southern Valley girls battled Bertrand to overtime but those Vikings finished a 47-41 comeback win Friday night.

Coach Richard McDonald’s SV Eagles (3-9 overall) shot in front 16-8 through one quarter and still led 27-23 through three periods.

The Vikings (5-4) used a 14-10 final period before outscoring S.V. 10-4 during that extra period.

No individual stats were obtained.

Southern Valley will meet Chase County for an annual game at McCook Community College’s Graff Events Center on Tuesday.

Longhorns win

IMPERIAL, Neb. — Chase County evened its record at 5-5 thanks to Friday’s 55-45 triumph over Kimball’s Longhorns.

Chase County trailed 13-11 through one quarter but took control with an 18-8 second. The Longhorns also finished strong during their 14-8 final period.

No individual stats were obtained.

Buffs blast Wallace

Kristen Beckman’s 17 points and 13 from Angie Singhateh fueled a 62-30 victory for Rawlins County, Kan., over Wallace County on Friday. The Buffaloes raised their record to 5-3.
