Expanding playoffs would make no sense
Even before Thanksgiving, I recall saying Michigan-Ohio State play for the right to get routed against Alabama or Clemson in those overhyped college football playoffs.
Thankfully, the Big Ten didn’t take the black eyes that went to Oklahoma and Notre Dame Saturday night.
Semifinals seemed like a waste of seven hours, because we all know Alabama and Clemson are the country’s two best teams.
Playoffs? Expand to six, eight or even 16?
That’s the most recent dumbest thing I’ve ever seen suggested.
There aren’t that many worthy and why wreck the best regular season in any sport?
Consider that eight of 10 semifinals have been decided by double digits. The 3-4 teams are rarely as good as 1 and 2.
Why include Central Florida, who gives up 40-plus points to Memphis and Temple?
Why include Ohio State and a 29-point loss to Purdue which then lost 63-14 against SEC mid-weight Auburn?
Why even include Oklahoma? The playoffs are plenty at four and probably too many. It’s proven every year.
