School board OKs 2.86% hike, $35,850 base

McCOOK, Neb. — The base pay for teachers at McCook Public Schools for 2019-20 will increase by 2.86 percent.

The McCook Board of Education, at its special meeting Friday morning, approved the negotiated agreement for 2019-20 with the McCook Education Association (MEA), the bargaining representative for certified staff. Base pay will increase by $300, to $35,850.

Other changes in the agreement included the insurance deductible increasing to $1,050.

The deductible amount was beyond the control of the school district but is set by the insurance company used by certified staff, said McCook Schools business manager, John Brazell.

The negotiated agreement was approved at the special meeting Friday, instead of at the regular monthly meeting in January, as both sides wanted the terms settled before Christmas, Brazell said.

Negotiated agreements are due to be completed by February.
