CURTIS, Neb. — Kathryn Brashears, 66, of Curtis, died Friday (Dec. 14, 2018), at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, Neb.

She was born Feb. 9, 1952, at McCook, Neb., to John F. and Helen M. (Sughroue) Helm. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, Kan., attended college in McCook, Neb., and earned a degree in home economics at Chadron State College. She later studied special education at Oglala Lakota College.

She married Robert H. Brashears on April 11, 1975. She and her husband owned the Yellow Rose Bar, and she worked as a special education teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Fred; and a sister, Mary.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Curtis; sons, Zachary (Kara) Brashears of Valentine, Neb., and Seth Brashears of Lincoln, Neb.; siblings, Jim (Yanis) Helm of Cambridge, Neb., John (Pam) Helm, II of Redmond, Wash., Mike (Debbie) Helm of Norcatur, Kan., Ceanne (Martin) Rinehart of Ogallala, and Laurie Helm of St. Joseph, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial Mass is Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, 10:30 a.m., at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola with the Rev. Gregory Pawloski officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Indianola at a later date.
