Eagles 'D' contains Bison girls attack
GOODLAND, Kan. — The McCook High girls will happily move from game one to game two following a 42-13 opener against Colby, Kan., Eagles late Thursday night.
Colby (2-0 record) connected on eight three-pointers while McCook went about six minutes before scoring its first points of the season in this Topside Tipoff Tournament first-round game.
The Bison (0-1) only allowed Colby to hit 15 of 55 shots overall. They also outrebounded the Eagles 31-21.
Sophomore Emma Kehler made a quick shot off the glas only to see Colby swish another three while taking a 19-6 halftime lead.
Senior McKenzie Smith and teammate Ashley Miller scored the first two baskets after halftime.
The Bison were only trailing 19-10 — yet Colby went on a 14-1 run through that third period.
Freshman Peyton Doucet hit her only shot attempt to highlight the 12-2 Eagle fourth period.
McCook moves on into consolation play starting at 3 p.m. today. The Bison will certainly gain more game experience since they did not play last week due to winter weather.
