Work Camp inmates Nick Munoz, above, and Jeremy Sherman, below, wield needles to stitch up a couple stuffed toys before the McCook area “Christmas Toy Box” giveaway Sunday, 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., at McCook Memorial Auditorium at West Fifth and C. Head Elf Barb Ostrum said the help of the inmates has been instrumental in getting the toys, games, bikes and trikes set up this week.”These men have been amazing help. If it wasn’t for them, we would really be struggling. I am hoping we are showing them what a true, caring community looks like,” Barb said. Toys, puzzles and games can be delivered to the roll-up doors on the north side of the auditorium through Saturday. The east doors of the auditorium will open for the giveaway Sunday precisely at 1 p.m.; the handicap accessible door and ramp are located on the south side of the building. Everyone must present a photo identification and proof of residence in these counties: Chase, Dundy, Hayes, Hitchcock, Frontier, Red Willow or Furnas counties in Nebraska; and Decatur, Rawlins, Cheyenne and Norton counties in Kansas. Shoppers must be at least 18 years old, and they cannot bring their own bags or boxes.
