TRENTON, Neb. — A showdown of 19-win teams from last season proved to be all Hitchcock County Thursday evening.

The Falcons sent shots flying through both nets a 58 percent clip while taking charge quickly against returning district finalist Cambridge.

They led 16-9 through one quarter and 35-17 by halftime — quite different than recent meetins with Trojan teams.

Of course, Hitchcock County’s now a senior-led team carrying confidence from their Class D-1 state tournament appearance.

They’ve also added former Trojan Shaye Porter, who moved in after last year and played a great role on Hitchcock’s volleyball team.

Porter talled eight points on Thursday to complement senior Allison Hoyt and junior Kass Kisker scoring a team-high 15 apiece.

Charli Apple also returned to Trenton from North Platte this season. She added 10 big points.

Junior Korynn Clason tallied 24 points to lead Cambridge, but the Trojans suffered a cold opening night overall.

HITCHCOCK COUNTY (58) — Kass Kisker 15 points, Allison Hoyt 15, Charli Apple 10, Shaye Porter 8, Kyleigh Scott 4, Amanda Horinek 4.

CAMBRIDGE (35) — Korynn Clason 24 points, Chloe Craig 5, Autumn Deterding 2, Clare Craig 2, Maria Jauken 2.
