LINCOLN, Neb. — Going through Kearney to state will be the goal of both Cambridge and Maywood-Hayes Center volleyball teams on Saturday.

The official district finals matches were set today with both those Gazette-area teams playing afternoon matches.

Cambridge’s Trojans (25-5) are seeded seventh among D-1 teams and will take on No. 10 Central Valley Cougars (24-6 record) from Greeley.

The D1-7 final is set to tip at 5 p.m. in Kearney Catholic High School.

Meanwhile, the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves (17-11) are seeded 15 among D-2 teams and take on No. 2 BDS (26-4 record) at 4:30 p.m. in Kearney High School.

Coach Kory Rohde’s Wolves captured a subdistrict title on Monday with their thrilling five-set comeback victory over Wauneta-Palisade.

Cambridge took home a subdistrict title from McCook Community College where the Trojans swept Southwest then took a four-set title match from Dundy County-Stratton.

Some observers thought DC-S (20-10 record) might earn one of the four district final “wildcard” spots but that did not happen for coach Bill Wilson’s talented team.

District winners on Saturday advance to the Nebraska State Volleyball Touranment at various sites in Lincoln starting Thursday, Nov. 8.

Archbishop Bergan has earned the D-1 No. 1 seed ahead of Johnson-Brock, Lindsay Holy Family and Pleasanton.
