Harold Marvel Brunswick

Oct. 11, 1926 - Oct. 16, 2018

BENKELMAN, Neb. — Harold Marvel Brunswick, son of Francis and Merle Brunswick, was born Oct. 11, 1926, at Benkelman. He passed from this life on Oct. 16, 2018, at the Sarah Ann Hester Home in Benkelman at the age of 92.

Harold was the oldest of seven children.  Harold attended Max School through the 10th grade. Harold enjoyed ranching and farming on the Wine Glass Ranch and later, the Brunswick Ranch.  Throughout his lifetime, he played for dances in the community.  He enjoyed gathering around the piano with family and friends, singing and playing his guitar, fiddle, mandolin and mouth harp. He was an honest man and a handshake was better than a signed contract.  His love was the land, where he grew his crops and took care of his cattle.

He served on the Benkelman Hospital Board, Haigler Coop, Wray Coop, NRD and the Benkelman School Board.

On May 28, 1950, at Haigler, Neb., he was united in marriage to Betty Hanshaw.  To this union, three children were born: one son, Dale (Wanda) Brunswick of Farmersville, Texas, and two daughters, Deb (Randy) Bartlett of Imperial Neb., and Dianna (Michael) Chambers of Holbrook, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty (Sept. 2, 1980); second wife, Harriet (Oct. 26, 2003); brothers, Ernest and Virgil; and brother-in-law, Harold Lloyd McCarville.

He is survived by his wife, Eva, of 13 years; his three children and their spouses; brothers and sisters, Richard Brunswick of Arizona, Verlyn (Deloris) Brunswick of Colorado, Yvonne Hager of Hastings, Neb., and Phyllis McCarville of McCook, Neb.; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. (MT), Saturday afternoon, Oct. 20, 2018, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Haigler with Pastor Doug Hjelmstad officiating. Interment will follow services in the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman.

Visitation will be Friday afternoon, Oct. 19, 2018, from 4 to 6 p.m. (MT) at the funeral home in Benkelman.
