GOTHENBURG, Neb. — Fresh off a six-match weekend, McCook’s volleyball players made quick work of both Gothenburg and Lexington during the Gothenburg Triangular Thursday night.

The Bison (8-12 record) swept Gothenburg 25-23, 25-16; then blasted past Lex 25-18, 25-9.

“I am super proud for them coming off the tough weekend and playing so competitively,” coach Aubrey Feeney proclaimed after McCook played six matches on Friday and Saturday in the Scottsbluff Invitational.

“Our girls served tough, which led us to a lot of points when we really needed them,” Feeney added.

Seniors Deanne Crocker and Kassidy Michaelis both served two aces past the host Swedes.

Senior classmate Jaceea Hanson clobbered 10 kills as the Bison needed every big hit during that 25-23 opening set.

Senior Mackenzie Smith (four kills), freshman Peyton Doucet (three) and Calina Allen (three) sent another 10 lethal shots through the Swedes’ defense.

Gothenburg brought a winning record of 13-12 into the match.

Michaelis made 11 digs to go with 17 assists for another super double double.

Doucet also hustled to 10 digs with Crocker and sophomore Charity Malleck adding eight apiece.

Hanson unleashed another 13 kills against the 9-15 Minutemaidds and Smith “smoked” five with some sizzling swings.

Once again, freshmen filled huge spots on the front role.

Allen and “rookie” classmate Addison Randel each slammed one stuff block vs. Lex hitters.

Senior Robin Grigg led the floor defense this time with 10 digs.

Michaelis offered 18 of McCook’s 21 assists.

“It was an awesome team effort and everyone did their jobs,” Feeney concluded.

McCook will play another triangular at Broken Bow on Tuesday.
