McCOOK, Neb. — Turkeys spotted running across the highway near Curtis would have been easier to capture than a North Platte tennis victory Tuesday afternoon.

That’s how dominant the McCook Bison boys were throughout their 8-1 varsity dual win over those northern visitors.

“The team competed well and played some great tennis,” coach Matt Wiemers declared as his Bison are now 5-2 in duals this season. “Picked up a win against a conference (GNAC) opponent we had not seen this season.”

The Bison could be seen blazing one fuzzy ball after one that not even North Platte’s quickest Bulldogs could reach.

Fueled by a quick meal with Bison girls’ state champ Kassidy Michaelis, senior Syd Wier powered through his No. 2 singles match to put the final touches on McCook’s strong win.

Mason Michaelis delivered the most dominant singles performance, losing only one game to North Platte’s No. 3 player.

Logan Barenberg and Isaac Hinze teamed for an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles.

No. 1 singles player Zion Moyer continued swinging past the 20-win mark this season while Wier is not far off that same pace.

North Platte’s only win required a 9-8 (7-3) tiebreaker decision.

“Now we get ready for our final home matches of the season Thursday (4 p.m. start) against Holdrege,” Wiemers concluded.
