OGALLALA, Neb. — Both the McCook trio and Dundy County-Stratton outgolfed multiple teams during Tuesday’s Ogallala Invitational at West Wind Golf Course.

Only one stroke separated the Bison’s best duo of junior Brooke Stewart (50-54-104) and Kaylie Puckett (48-57-105).

Junior Hannah Goltl followed with a 108. Those scores were better than any golfer from Bayard, Kimball, Perkins County or Creek Valley.

Dundy County-Straton also topped four eams among 16 competing.

Sophomores McKinzie Baney (117) and Jaylee Daniels (119) fired the Tigers’ low scores.

Angel Phannenstiel and Lauren Bailey also contributed to the 503 team total. DC-S finished lower than Perkins County (538), Lexington (549), Creek Valley (551) or Bayard (581).

Meanwhile, the North Platte golfers swept both championships. They shot 351 which topped strong Western opponents Gering (360), Scottsbluff (367) and Ogallala (371).

North Platte’s Baylee Steele also shot 78 to win a close individual title chase with top Gering Bulldog Madi Schlaepfer (80).

Mitchell’s Kenzey Kano was only one more stroke off that pace (81) and Cozad’s Lynzi Becker carded an 82.

Many area golfers including McCook return to action at Thursday’s Holdrege Invitational.
