CURTIS, Neb. — Coach Diana Klein loves the direction of her Medicine Valley Raiders even though Alma scored a 25-18, 25-11, 25-22 volleyball win Tuesday evening.

“If we’d had one more set, maybe it would have been different,” she said as the Raiders took late leads during that final battle to 25.

The Alma Cardinals (8-5 record) continued to show whey they won a Hitchcock County tourney title earlier this month.

Freshman Carlee Stuhmer’s will become a familiar force with her 14 kills and senior Kayla Kindler crushed another nine.

The Cardinals also served an incredible 25 aces led by Kindler’s eight.

“They are a good, quick team,” Klein confirmed about Alma.

That’s been a theme during Med Valley’s recent matches against Alma, 8-3 Hitchcock County and another 8-3 team at Brady.

The Raiders (3-6 record) have dropped five since a 3-1 start, but there are still many matches ahead.

Senior Alex Ellermier and sophomore Acelyn Klein drilled eight kills apiece Tuesday night.

Kaylynn Roblee crushed another five.

Klein rose to offer resistance against Cardinal hitters with four ace blocks.

Ellermeier, Taylor Fugate and senior Sabra Schmidt made one block each.

Schmidt delivered 18 assists when she wasn’t blocking to go with 18 digs from Fugate.

Sydney Veldhuizen and Klein contriubted 11 digs apiece.

“We had a lot of girls step up,” Klein concluded. “We’re definitely improving.”

Medicine Valley can focus on getting better in practice since the next match is eight days away vs. Paxton on Thursday, Sept. 27.

Broncos win a pair

PAXTON, Neb. — Wauneta-Palisade ripped through two matches to win Tuesday’s Paxton tournament.

The Broncos (6-7 record) pounded Potter-Dix 25-21, 25-8 behind sophomore Haylee Sandman’s eight kills and three stuff blocks.

They also served 10 aces past the Coyotes’ defense with Sandman and senior Monique Gooden totaling three apiece.

Sophomore Maycee Wheeler and freshman Alexa Sandman added two aces each.

The Broncos moved on to win a great 25-16, 24-26, 25-23 triumph over those host Paxton Tigers.

Gooden’s six kills with four ace serves fueled this W-P victory.

Haylee Sandman slammed another six kills and Alexa Sadman smashed five.

Both Sandmans and Wheeler made one stuff block.

Junior Michaela Dukes served five of the 14 Bronco aces.

Again, the Sandmans equally divided four aces while sophomore Payton Yearous contributed one.

The Broncos have earned all six of their victories on visiting or neutral courts. They’ll visit Maywood-Hayes Center Thursday evening to take on those 8-4 Wolves.

Longhorns fall

SIDNEY, Neb. — The Chase County Longhorns lost 25-17, 25-16, 26-24 to Sidney Tuesday night.

The Longhorns still own a 6-4 record entering their match at Dundy County-Stratton Thursday evening.

Buffs drop match

HOXIE, Kan. — The Rawlins County, Kan. Buffaloes are still 9-5 overall despite losing 25-13, 25-16 to powerhouse Hoxie Tuesday night.

Hoxie raised its record to 13-4 this season.
