Cat Pack wins grant for canopy

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Cat Pack, supporters of the McCook Humane Society and its animal shelter, have been awarded a $500 promotional logo event canopy tent to shelter their volunteers and products at fund-raising events.

Cat Pack members will “unveil” the new canopy at their booth in Norris Park during McCook’s Heritage Days weekend, Sept. 29 and 30, and erect it again for the shelter’s annual “Dog Day in the Park” Oct. 13.

“We are very proud and excited that the “4imprint one by one®” program decided to select us this year for one of their community grants,” is the statement issued by the Cat Pack.

The Cat Pack volunteers’ Heritage Days booth will be their seventh annual booth in Norris Park to raise funds for the animal shelter. They will sell the new 2019 “Cats and Dogs of McCook” calendars and magnets, t-shirts and playing cards. As always, 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to the McCook Humane Society.

Dog Days in the Park champions responsible pet ownership.

In June, Cat Pack volunteers applied for the grant from 4imprint to help them project a more professional image to the public at their fund-raisers and to shelter volunteers and their products from the weather.

The logo canopy will also help Cat Pack volunteers bring awareness to the 35-year-old McCook Humane Society and its animal shelter, which takes in abandoned and surrendered puppies, kittens, dogs and cats until permanent “furever” homes can be found and stray animals until they can be reunited with their owners. The shelter takes in 50-75 animals each month.

It operates with minimal but dedicated staff, a volunteer board of directors and and an army of volunteers.

Since 2009, Cat Pack volunteers have been committed to completing projects which raise awareness and donations for the humane society and animal shelter. The Cat Pack has grown from basic bake sales and lemonade stands to a full menu of shelter-themed and logo merchandise such as posters, coffee mugs, t-shirts, mouse pads, calendars, a custom deck of playing cards, coloring books, stuffed animals and original artwork.

Since 2009, Cat Pack members of elementary, junior high and high school youths have hosted 42 fundraising events generating approximately $28,500 in donations that have directly benefited the McCook Humane Society.

Because many of the original Cat Pack volunteers are high school seniors graduating in May 2019, volunteers want to help them go out in a big way with the new logo canopy, as well as help set up younger volunteers for the future.
