MCC spikers stretch win streak to four

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Community College Lady Indian volleyball team swept Garden City Community College Tuesday night 25-11, 25-19, 25-14.

It was the fourth straight win for MCC.

Sophomore Ryan Maddera (Evans, Colo.) led the Lady Indians with 14 kills and three aces. Freshman Mallory Brown, (Colorado Springs) had six.

“Our middles (Ty Johnson) and Hannah (Emmerson) played a great game for us,” MCC coach Hayley Kobza said.

Johnson, a sophomore from Conroe, Texas had eight kills. Emmerson, a sophomore from Greeley, Colo., also had eight kills.

“Another positive for us is that our defense is tightening up in the back row” Kobza said.

Sophomore libero Brooklyn Evans (Ogden, Utah) had four aces.

“We really didn’t play to our level and the girls know we need to pick up the intensity before Thursday,” MCC Coach Hayley Kobza said.

The Broncbusters fall to 0-13 on the year.

The Lady Indians improve to 7-4 on the season and continue a four-game home stand Thursday against North Platte at 7 p.m. for Spirit Day – War Zone.

Students and other fans will don war paint and come dressed for battle with arch-rival North Platte.

The night is also designated Community Hospital Night with all Community Hospital employees and their families invited as special guests.

The Lady Indians who are 2-0 on this first homestand conclude it Tuesday against Central Community College at 7 p.m.
