McCOOK, Neb. — McCook High freshmen shook off a late 16-point North Platte comeback and shut down the Bulldogs when needed most Tuesday night.

Following Branson McDonald’s 10-yard touchdown run, the Bison defense stopped North Platte cold while clinching a 34-28 overtime victory at Weiland Field.

McDonald and Dylan Beaumont teamed to score all five McCook touchdowns.

The Bison built a 28-12 fourth-quarter lead only to see those Bulldogs unleash 24 and four-yard scoring runs along with two successful two-point conversions.

Coach Bill Ramsay provided more insightful analysis about the Bison securing a 2-0 start to their high school football careers:

“:Our kids played a tough game that I am sure they will always remember.

Offensively ,we controlled the line of scrimmage and moved the ball, we opened up some big holes that allowed our backs to gain some big yards.

We have to do a much better job of protecting the football.

We had several drives stopped by fumbles.

Defensively, we played very well except for a few breakdowns that allowed a few big plays. We caused several turnovers and did a good job of gang tackling.”

McCook will prepare for its first road game of the season at Hershey on Monday.
