final rundown of highlights from area football teams Friday night that were not included in Monday’s Gazette:

Wolves run loose

Senior quarterback Ethan Broker shook free for 89 yards on only seven rushes in Maywood-Hayes Center’s 45-0 loss at South Platte.

The Wolves (0-1) delivered several other highlights despite not denting that scoreboard with any points.

Devon Johnson totaled 175 all-purpose yards: 61 rushing and 114 on kick returns.

Junior classmate Parker Johnston gained another 52 ground yards (7.3 per rush), caught two passes for 30 and made a team-high 10 tackles.

Daniel Doyle and Juan Baeza — two more MH-C juniors — added two solo tackles apiece.

Amazingly, the Wolves ran 20 more offensive plays than South Platte according to maxpreps.com statistics.

The Blue Knights were balanced and efficient as junior Josiah Spencer fired six-point strikes to three different receivers.

Senior Austen Jaeger needed only 11 carries to gain 129 yards and tally two more TDs. The Blue Knights broke a scoreless tie by tallying 25 unanswered second-quarter points.

The MH-C Wolves move on to their home opener at 3 p.m. on Friday in Maywood against Silver Lake.
