Indians split first four matches

BEATRICE, Neb. -- The McCook Community College volleyball team wrapped up a 2-2 start to the season Saturday in the RKP Invitational hosted by Southeast Community College.

Colby and Highland Community College finished atop the 11-team field with 4-0 weekend marks.

Cloud County and Hawkeye Community College both finished 3-1. MCC and North Platte finished 2-2. Northeast CC (Norfolk), Southeastern CC (Iowa), Southeast CC (Beatrice), and Williston State all finished 1-3. Southwestern CC (Iowa) went 0-4.

Here are the results from this weekend’s RKP Invitational:

FRIDAY

MCC 3, Southeastern Community College (Iowa) 1: The Lady Indians dropped the first match of the season 25-23 but came back with three straight set-wins, 25-10, 25-14, 25-8. Sophomore Ryan Maddera, (Greeley, Colo.) led MCC with 17 kills. Freshman Faith Simpson (Wauneta-Palisade) had 12 kills and sophomore Hannah Emerson (Greeley, Colo.) had 10 kills. Sophomore Ashley Carson, (Ord) had 34 assists.

Colby CC 3, MCC 0:. The Lady Trojans won 25-23, 25-16, 25-22. Maddera had 13 kills, Simpson 11. Carson had 14 digs and 23 assists.

SATURDAY

Hawkeye Community College 3, MCC 0: Simpson had 14 kills, Maddera 10 while Carson had 22 assists.

MCC 3, Northeastern Community College 0: Freshman Makayla Harris (Brighton, Colo.) came on for four aces. Sophomore Brooklyn Evans (Ogden, Utah) had 14 digs and a pair of aces. Maddera led MCC with 13 kills, a solo block, and two block assists. Simpson had 12 kills.

Sophomore Ty Johnson (Conroe, Texas) had seven kills and four block assists.
