Trojan golfers rule season opener at home

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — The Cambridge Trojan golfers teed off with a 74-hole victory in only nine holes during their annual opening home invite Thursday afternoon.

Cambridge shot 212 overall with Lexie Sines (49) and Taylor Sayer (50) delivering the day’s low scores.

Lexington fired 286 while McCook did not record a team score since only three Bison are on this year’s squad.

However, junior Brooke Stewart did finish third individually behind the Trojan duo.

Stewart fired 55 across the nine Cross Creek holes including a strong finish. She shot four, five and five again on those last three holes for 14 to match Sayer for best finish.

Sines was consistent throughout as she shot fours on three holes and never needed more than seven strokes.

Sayer shook off an opening seven and kept pace with Sines throughout this season opener.

Maria Jauken (56) and Karinne Jurey (57) completed Thursday’s top five.

Jauken battled through three consecutive eights, then delivered the only three-stroke hole of any golfer competing Thursday.

Jurey wasn’t far behind Sines or Sayer though she did hit sevens on her last two holes.

The remaining top 10 golfers were Trojans Ryann Lewis (58),Destry Jorgensen (60), Erin Witte (60), McCook’s Hannah Goltl (60) followed by two more Cambridge girls: Chloe Besler and Amelia Sayer (both 62s).

Lexington’s best score was Daniela Lopez with 65.

McCook: Brooke Stewart 55, Hannah Goltl 60, Kaylie Puckett 69.

Cambridge: Lexie Sines 49, Taylor Sayer 50, Maria Jauken 56, Karinne Jurey 57, Ryann Lewis 58, Destry Jorgensen 60, Erin Witte 60, Chloe Besler 62, Amelia Sayer 62, Audrey Paisley 63, Gary Raburn 72.
