Twenty-three members of the Good Earth Garden Club tour Patty Brown’s yard and garden at 1301 Country Club Drive Tuesday evening. Mark and Patty and their kids moved from Indianola to their home in McCook in 1992. “The landscape has changed so much,” Patty said, walking along the south side of the house. The trees are bigger, shade patterns have changed, Mark brought in a garden shed and Patty has designed a memorial garden and added perennial and annual flower beds accented with creative “junktique treasures.” The koi pond is a favorite destination, and is shaded by “the wonder tree” — an apple tree that is so hollowed out and scarred that Patty “wonders why it’s still alive.” Patty’s yard was featured in April in the Gazette’s spring yard and garden edition; garden club members marveled at the summer version of Patty’s park. The Good Earth Gardeners also toured the yard and garden of Dr. Melanie Jones-Wier.
