Rebels hosting tourney, Gray wins four
McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Rebels Gray 16-and-under fastpitch team scored four big wins to highlight their 2018 softball season.
McCook knocked off the Norton (Kan.) Stealers, 4-3, as Elise Aguilar tripled and drove home two big runs.
Bailey Brown singled, stole a base and scored twice.
Brooke Evans pitched all five innings to earn the win. She allowed just one earned run and struck out four.
The Rebels earned a second victory on May 26 when they blanked Flames Blazen, 4-0.
Carsyn Hanes’ two RBIs sparked this ‘W’ while Cali Gunderson, Brown, Faith Wagner and Hanes all scored once which supported pitcher Evans’ shutout.
McCook Rebels Gray later beat Garden County, 8-0, with Evans throwing four innings and permitting just one hit.
Hanes (two hits, two RBIs), Aguilar (run, hit, two RBIs) and Emily Alberts (hit, run, RBI) led one of the Rebels’ best offensive games of the season.
The Rebels delivered one more win, 8-5, over Flames Blazen on July 1.
Brown blasted three hits and drove home three runs.
Cali Gunderson rounded the bases three more times after drilling a double, walking and reaching on an error.
Abby Degnan and Hanes each added two more clutch RBIs.
Wagner also doubled for one of the three extra-base Rebel hits.
Evans earned more win from the pitcher’s circle.
None of the five runs she allowed were earned as she walked only one and struck out six for the Rebels.
