FCB Juniors jolt Minden late for 'W'

McCOOK, Neb. — McCook’s First Central Bank Juniors stole the lead late in the game in a 14-6 victory over Minden on Monday.

The West Division champ Juniors (17-8 record) were down 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Logan Barenberg singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

The flood gates soon opened without a single raindrop.

Joel Carter singled home Barenberg before Alec Langon scored on a fielding error from visiting Minden.

Colton Stevens then crushed a two-run single as Carter and Coady Armstrong both motored home for an 11-6 McCook lead.

After a Minden pitching change, Stevens and Tanner Jacobs delivered a double steal to put both Juniors in scoring position.

Konor Rakes promptly hit an infield grounder which Minden turned into one of its eight defensivie miscues.

Rakes took over with his own speed, swiping both second and third base before a passed ball sent him cruising home to the 14th FCB run — nine during that one inning.

McCook FCB Juniors earned the victory despite allowing Minden to score four runs in the fifth inning.

Minden’s big inning was driven by walks by Zach Hinrichs and Ben Edgicombe and singles by Gage Fries and Jackson Bespolar.

McCook FCB Juniors got things moving in the first inning, when Stevens’s sac fly scored one run .

In the bottom of the fourth inning, McCook FCB Juniors tied things 2-2 when Barenberg singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Jordan Chauncy got the start for McCook FCB Juniors.

He surrendered two runs on three hits over four innings, striking out four.

Braden Bates led things off on the mound for Minden.

He surrendered one run on one hit over 2 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Kristian Eikler, Edgicombe, and Theo Huber each contributed in relief for Minden.

McCook FCB Juniors racked up seven hits in the game. Barenberg and Tanner Jacobs each racked up multiple hits for McCook FCB Juniors. Jacobs and Barenberg each collected two hits to lead McCook FCB Juniors.

Stevens led McCook FCB Juniors with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.
