MNB Seniors shut out area foe Imperial

Friday, June 22, 2018

IMPERIAL, Neb. — Seth Dugger’s six shutout innings made sure the McCook National Bank Seniors would not need a repeat of their five-run rally against Imperial two weeks ago.

Instead, Dugger and Cameryn Berry allowed only five Imperial hits in the 4-0 MNB road victory Wednesday evening.

Spencer Krysl drove home the first two runs which was really all MNB needed thanks to superior pitching. McCook fired 21 first-pitch strikes to 26 Imperial batters.

Krysl made Kaleb Taylor feel better about being hit with a pitch as he rumbled hom on the second-inning Krysl single.

McCook (12-7 record) still led 1-0 into the fourth frame until Krysl crushed his team-leading third triple this season. Derek Greenlee dashed around second and third to score after he had singled.

Clayton Stevens’ next hit didn’t leave the infield, but it sent Krysl home for a 3-0 MNB lead.

Pitchers Berry and Dugger delivered that final McCook run. Berry singled, stole second and used his track speed to easily finish the journey on Dugger’s RBI-line drive into center.

Overall, the Seniors totaled only two more hits than host Imperial.

Yet catcher James Mockry’s two pickoff throws eliminated a pair of potential final-inning Imperial threats.

Mockry threw out one base stealer at second and later picked off another runner at that same place.

Imperial featured singles from five different players including Jack Bauerle and Duncan Rector. The home team also hit into three double plays.

MNB now moves on to a busy four-game weekend at the Kearney Jersey Sports Grill Tournament.

McCook will open against Smith Center, Kan., at 5:30 p.m. on Fridaytoday before meeting league foe Jerseys Sports Grill in an 8 p.m. non-league contest. The Seniors edged this Kearney team, 3-2, on June 8.

Saturday brings MNB another 5:30 p.m. first pitch vs. Wahoo. On Sunday, the Seniors play Grand Island for their tourney finale at 3 p.m.
