McCOOK, Neb. — McCook Community College graduate Michael Sookdeo from Brampton, Ontario, has signed on to continue his baseball career at Division I Grambling State.

“It was a goal of Mike’s when he came here to go Division I after his two years here, Mike worked extremely hard to make sure that happened,” MCC Coach Jon Olsen said.

Sookdeo tied for seventh in the Region IX ranks with 44 RBIs in 54 games.

He batted .310 this past season with four home runs, nine doubles, a .415 on-base average and .446 slugging percentage in 217 plate appearances.

He walked 24 times which was sixth most in the Region.

“He would always spend extra time hitting, or taking extra ground balls, or in the weight room,” Olsen said.

Sookdeo was MCC’s primary designated hitter this past season and also played third base.

He was recently named to the Region IX academic all-region team.
