Auditions planned for 'Pool's Paradise'

McCOOK, Neb. — The Southwest Nebraska Community Theatre has received a license to perform the musical "Mamma Mia!" at the historic Fox Theatre March 16, 17, 19, 22, 23 and 24, 2019, according to Gene Weedin, SWNCTA president.

Auditions for the production will be held in November.

First, however, auditions for SWNCTA's fall production of "Pool's Paradise" are set for June 24-25, 7 to 9 p.m. both days, at 1526 Centennial Drive in McCook.

There are three female and four male characters in Pool's Paradise.

The Rev. Lionel and Penelope Toop live in the vicarage in the village of Merton-cum-Middlewick.

Ida, the maid, and her boyfriend, Willie Briggs, have convinced Penelope to invest in a pools ticket. The Rev. is against gambling. Miss Skillon is a strong-willed former military nurse.

The Rev. Arthur Humphrey is called to assist the vicar. The Bishop of Lax arrives on the scene later to check on the pastors. Problems pile up when Penelope wins the pool and her husband has an accident and is suddenly in the care of Miss Skillon.

Confusion and hysteria produce much laughter for the audience right up to the very end of the show. Director Don Harpst selected this comedy, based upon audience appeal when he directed the show in Curtis and about 18 years ago in McCook.

Pool's Paradise will be performed October 6, 7, 11, 13, and 14, 2018 at the Bieroc Cafe.
