Cars on parade, at travel speeds

Jim and Pam Wesch of McCook bid a parade of cars farewell from the tailgate of their pickup, waving Old Glory at all of the 400-or-so antique, custom, collectible and classic cars and pickups that passed on Highway 83 south of town that afternoon. The cars were traveling the North Platte-to-Holdrege leg of the 26th annual Nebraska Rod and Custom Association’s 600-mile “Tour Nebraska” driving event. “This was wonderful! Everyone was waving. This was so much fun!” Pam gushed. So much fun to watch, in fact, that she and Jim have decided to check into joining the car club, getting their ‘66 Ford pickup in show-shape and road-worthy and participating in the organization’s yearly cross-state “parades.” Sunday, Jim couldn’t pick a favorite from the cars driving Highway 83 near Common Scents and Wilcox Well Drilling. “They’re kinda like kids … it’s hard to pick a favorite,” he laughed.
