Anne Marie Lord

Oct. 23, 1925 - May 11, 2018

INDIANOLA, Neb. — Anne Marie Lord, age 92, passed away Friday May 11, 2018, at Tri-Valley Manor, Cambridge, Neb., with her family at her side.

She was born Oct. 23, 1925, to Chris and Emily (Esser) Gehlbach in Canon City, Colo., graduating from Canon City High School (Class of 1943). Upon graduation, and for the next five years, she became a most highly-valued teller at her local bank.

On Labor Day Sept. 6, 1948, she married Clifton “Cliff” Lord in Colorado Springs, Colo. They enjoyed raising their three children in Indianola, where Cliff joined his dad in Lord’s Hardware and Furniture, thus making him the third generation of the family-owned business. Later, Anne accepted the position of bookkeeper, retiring after 40 years. This lead to a transition of their son, Tim, now being the fourth generation in the 136-year history (1882).

She was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. Together with Cliff, she directed the Children’s Choir for 25 years. She was very active for several years in the Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW), having served on both the Board of the Lincoln Deanery and that of the Indianola Deanery. She was a member of the Indianola Women’s Club and enjoyed directing many plays throughout the years. She belonged to American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, U-Go-I-Go Pinochle Club, and Guys-N-Gals card club. She also loved to travel, and over the years made a multitude of friends wherever she went.

Her love of God and dedication to her faith and family was more than words can say. Her face lit up whenever she would see her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially loved playing dominos and “Old Maid” with all of them – it was so funny to see her try to keep from smiling when she passed that card to someone else. Later in life, she was a lady who loved her Bingo and Yahtzee - didn’t like to lose, but that wasn’t a problem because she won most of the time! Her smile was contagious - it reflected all the kindness and caring that she held within her heart – the most loving person you would ever want to meet.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cliff; and son-in-law, Allan Winings.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Will) McKay of Liberty, Mo., and Corinne Winings of O’Neill, Neb., one son, Tim (Kathy) Lord of Indianola; granddaughters, Lisa (Lance) Shifflet and Kimberly (Austin) Minard; grandsons, Michael Lord and Jeff (Cris) Winings); step-grandchildren, David (Virginia) McKay, Lynne Helstrom and Laura (Jim) Conniff; great-grandsons, Ty and Tyson Winings; great-granddaughter, Annsley Shifflet; six step-great-grandchildren; and numerous additional relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, with Celebrants Rev Greg Pawloski. Burial will follow in St Catherine’s Cemetery in Indianola.
