'Pioneer' in Cambridge

Tuesday, May 1, 2018
Karen Wyatt Drevo of Norfolk will portray “Maria Rodaway: Prairie Pioneer” during a Humanities Nebraska presentation Sunday, May 6, at 1 p.m., at the Cambridge Museum. Karen becomes her great-great-grandmother Maria, telling the story of how she and seven children crossed the Atlantic Ocean to reunite the family following a 7 1/2-year separation and they homesteaded in Otoe County, Nebraska in 1867. Maria endured grasshoppers, hail, drought, tornadoes, blizzards and the loss of her husband and six of her 13 children, working all the while to become a citizen and a landowner in a new country. The public is invited to Karen’s presentation; admission to the museum is free of charge. Karen’s program is funded by Humanities Nebraska, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska Legislature, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment and private donations.
