Air ambulance training

McCook's emergency personnel train on landing zone procedures with the LifeNet air ambulance from North Platte Monday evening. Fire chief Marc Harpham said the LifeNet helicopter can make the North Platte-McCook trip in 35 minutes and will transport a patient to whatever trauma center is appropriate for the needed care. LifeNet also has a fixed-wing ambulance in North Platte. McCook firefighter/paramedic Mike Schoenemann, right, works part-time as a flight paramedic for LifeNet. "This is good for us here," Harpham said, explaining that flight paramedics have additional training in critical care and flight medicine, and the McCook department can benefit from Schoenemann's specific training and experience with the helicopter.
