Raiders win home invitational

CURTIS, Neb. -- Medicine Valley defended its home turf by winning Thursday’s Medicine Valley Golf Tournament at Arrowhead Meadows in Curtis.

The Raiders shot a team score of 361 to win the title over Paxton, which finished second with 379.

Medicine Valley had three individuals in the top five. The Raiders were led by Joseph Chancellor, who tied for second with an 83. Sid Schultz and Sheldon Johnsen were fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 87 and 88.

Raider teammate Brady Henderson also medaled with a 13th-place finish of 103.

Next in line among Gazette schools was Southwest. The Roughriders finished third with 429 and were led by Denver Holdcroft’s seventh-place finish of 90. Dylan Hofman was second with a 106 and Wyatt McConville shot a 107. Jay Porter was fourth on the team with a 126 and Simon Moore was fifth with a 135.

Dundy County-Stratton finished fourth with a 436. The Tigers’ Nate Auffet tied Holdcroft for seventh place with his 90 score. Romey Grier (11th, 97) and Matthew Lorens (15th, 104) also medaled for DCS. Jasper Perrigo had a 145 to finish Tiger scoring.

Cambridge finished two strokes back of DCS with a 438 fifth-place finish. The Trojans’ Preston Carbaugh tied for second with an 83. Thursday’s tournament marked the first time this season that he didn’t win the individual title.

Cameron Hagedorn also placed with a 10th-place score of 94, while Ethan Sides and Cort Fiene were next with scores of 114 and 147, respectively. Thatcher Patterson was the final Trojan scorer with a 148.

Coming in sixth was Hitchcock County with a 456 team score. The Falcons got medal performances from Darian Hutto and Remington Hodges. Hutto finished sixth with an 89, while Hodges carded a 103 to tie with Henderson for 13th.

Other Falcon scorers were Chris O’Byrne with a 115, Joslyn Dwyer with a 149 and April Wagner with a 164.

A group of Chase County reserves finished seventh with a 468. The Longhorn JV group was led by Brady Gittlein’s 113 and Austin Laird’s 115. Kenyan Biesecker had a 117 and Clay Meeske had 123. Chance Lotspeich finished with a 160.

Rounding out Gazette teams was Maywood-Hayes Center. The Wolves carded a team score of 506 to finish eighth.

MHC was led by Paul White, who finished just outside the medaling places with a 107. Seth Robinson carded a 127, while Jack McIntosh and Keegan Dibbern fired scores of 135 and 137, respectively.

Ethan Broker rounded out MHC scoring with a 150.

Winning the individual title Thursday was Paxton’s Jeremy Peters, who carded an 80.
