BEAVER CITY, Neb. — The last week of March was busy for Furnas County sheriff’s officers.

Criminal mischief

On Thursday, March 26, the sheriff’s office received a report of criminal mischief on the Furnas County Fairgrounds in Beaver City.

Officers found multiple tire track tracks and acceleration marks on the fairgrounds. Sheriff Kurt Kapperman reported that a pickup had “spun cookies” by the north entrance as well as in several places in the pit area of the arena.

Deputies located a suspected red Chevy pickup at a Beaver city factory and found mud and grass on the pickup and the tires consistent with the grass at the fairgrounds, Kapperman said.

The sheriff said that the owner of the vehicle, Jonathon C. Speth, 21, of Beaver City, admitted to tearing around at the fairgrounds on Saturday night.

Speth was cited for criminal mischief, careless driving, driving under suspension and no proof of insurance. He is scheduled to appear in Furnas County Court for arraignment on Monday, April 30, at 1 p.m.

Noisy MIP party

On March 28, the sheriff’s office received a complaint of noise and a possible minor-in-possession (MIP) party at an apartment in Beaver City.

Upon their arrival, deputies observed minors drinking inside the apartment, investigated and issued citations to a 15-year-old Beaver City male juvenile and to Tyesha S. Johnson, 20, of Oxford, for minor in possession of alcohol. Also cited was Tyeler B. Anderson, 21, of Beaver City, for procuring alcohol for minors.

All parties cited were released. The juvenile was released to his mother.

Smelly traffic stop

On March 28, at approximately 7:44 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop in Arapahoe on a blue car with no plates.

The driver, a 16-year-old juvenile of Edison, Nebraska, was the only occupant of the vehicle. The deputy smelled marijuana, conducted a “probable cause” search and found a baggie containing less than one ounce of marijuana and a marijuana pipe in the vehicle.

The juvenile was cited for possession of marijuana less than one ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia, and released to his guardian.
